What do you love about the city or area that your home is in?

The things we love about Uptown are so numerous. We love being right on Lake Calhoun! The sunsets are amazing. The 32nd Street beach is right across the street and we swim there a lot in the hot days of summer. We enjoy canoeing, paddle boarding and sailing the chain of Calhoun, Isles and Cedar lakes right from in front of our house. The bike paths that go all over the city are here, too, and we ride there often. In the winter, there is cross country skiing on the lakes, too. Then there are the conveniences of Uptown that we enjoy every day. It is a very walkable neighborhood. The grocery store, coffee shops, fitness centers, drug store and library are just a few blocks away. We love eating out in Uptown, too, since there are dozens of delicious restaurants within walking distance.

If you are in a neighborhood or association, what great things happen there?

Our neighborhood association is very active. There are street parties with neighbors about 4 times a year and various gatherings around community events. Also, an annual parade and potluck for the entire ECCO neighborhood takes place each September. There is an annual wine tasting party for charity each year, too. We love to eat at the Tin Fish right on Lake Calhoun. Then, in Uptown, a few favorites of the dozens of restaurants available are: Amore Victoria, Stella’s Fish Cafe, the Uptown Cafeteria, Amazing Thailand, Chino Latino, and the Urban Eatery. In the warm seasons the rooftops of Stella’s, Amore Victoria and the Uptown Cafeteria are a lot of fun.

Key points about the property that we were drawn to?

When we bought our home, we were drawn to the original character of the property. The entry way with the turning staircase caught our eye. We love that the builder positioned the house to view the lake from every room (except the bathrooms). That was amazing to us and when the windows are open the breeze flows through the house beautifully. Also, the location within Minneapolis can’t be beat for conveniences and amenities and we take advantage of that all the time!

Any other things to mention?

The public schools in this area of the city are much sought after. Kenwood Elementary and Anthony Middle Schools are popular and ranked well. What Updates/Improvements have you made to the home since you purchased it?

entrySince purchasing the home we have made significant improvements. The upstairs bath was gutted and remodeled with travertine floor, subway tile walls, and custom cabinet and countertop as the highlights. The walls were refinished and ceilings raised in the main floor rooms. Crown molding was added. The hard wood floors have been refinished. The kitchen was gutted and remodeled. It includes slate floors, custom cabinetry, stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops and a deep heavy duty stainless sink. Floor heat was added in the kitchen, main floor bath and upstairs office. These areas have zoned heating. The laundry area was moved from the basement to the 2nd floor. No more hauling laundry up and down steps! The lower level has been finished to add a Family Room and extra space for the kids to hang out with friends.
